    the important parts are sh*t on the cheap ones and they are expensive to replace if you do all of them you are right, worth much more the guitar itself. it's not the offset communities fault fender don't make offsets at reasonable price that are the traditional stylings of as they used to anymore so people decide oh to buy cheap Indonesia guitar then dump money into it. also you already had this guitar for a while why did you have to message anyone else to get their opinion, did you not form an opinion from playing it yourself?

    • @MrRafaztar
      @MrRafaztar 3 місяці тому

      I had this guitar borrowed from a friend and then decided to buy it only recently. I actually messaged Mike Adams, puisheen, much earlier than even that. I agree actually that fender should made it something good in a couple of price points. But that doesn't stop the fact I see people upgrading guitars almost regardless of price point. To be fair LP owners often buy new pickups to even CS guitars

  • @mooseymoose
    @mooseymoose 3 місяці тому

    The best guitar is the one you have in your hands. That Juliet is plenty to take you from here to there. You haven’t played long enough to need to worry about having one of each type of guitar, and once you’ve reached that level you probably won’t want half of them anyway. Worry about the music and not gear.

  • @gringogreen4719

    The main issue with Offsets is that the inexpensive models (Squier and new brands) leave you wanting for hardware. I bought a Xaviere JT 100 (GFS Pickups house brand) and that was $240 plus shipping. I kept the body, neck and pickups. I have replaced the 500k pots with CTS 1 Meg pots, added a .047 Orange Drop capacitor, replaced the switch (JD Moon), and jack (Switchcraft) as well. I also replaced the tuners (OK-ish) with locking tuners and added Tusq string trees. I plan on replacing the Trem and bridge Haylon parts which will cost more than I spent on the guitar so far. The most "cost effective" parts are actually Fender parts. Squier and Import parts are ok at best but they will get you wanting better parts within a year or two. You mentioned certain frequencies, Offsets are really geared towards thicker strings. I would say try a heavier string gauge (I play 12s on mine like my hollow body guitars) and that may help you out.

    • @MrRafaztar
      @MrRafaztar 3 місяці тому

      Yeah, it could sort of work as a stepping stone or a sinking cost depending on what mods I do. I also didn’t want to commit to an expensive guitar if then I would have to still upgrade parts. Might as well upgrade on a more affordable guitar imo. I use 10s and I have heard that same advice that thicker strings work better on offsets or even flatwounds, or even! Wound G string

    • @gringogreen4719
      @gringogreen4719 3 місяці тому

      @@MrRafaztar These guitars are stand-ins for big Jazz Boxes which usually have flatwounds or thicker strings. For me that wasn't a problem because my go to sets are 11s on my solid bodies and 12s on my hollow bodies. A set of flatwounds are more like 12s or 13s gauged strings. When you play different guitars, you have to set them up and get used to them in different ways. Even going from a Fender 25.5 inch scale to a Gibson 24.75 inch is a slight adjustment, they FEEL different when you play them. When you go to more niche guitars like hollow bodies or Offsets, yeah, you can't set them up like a Strat or a Tele. For a good and silly example of this, try throwing a set of 9s on your acoustic guitar, does it sound good? Does it have a full range of tone? Is it loud? It's definitely worth trying it out for yourself but I can answer the question. No, your acoustic sounds funny and something a banjo puked up. It doesn't sound good at all. Even lighter gauged acoustic strings are 12s and 13s. So for Offsets you have a few cheap ones, Squier is probably the best example. You have a Standard range with Fenders and a few others sitting below and above a Grand. Then you have Boutique Offsets that get expensive really fast. My suggestion is to play what you have now, maybe bump up the string gauge to a set of 11s (10s don't feel that different from 9s but you can tell a difference from 10s to 11s for sure) or maybe a set of 12s. I would say make sure that the volume and tone pots are 1 Meg, if you can solder them in yourself, this is about $20. If you don't like the bridge you can either buy Tusq Mustang/Jazzmaster saddles or buy a new Fender Mustang bridge. I think the newer Squiers are shimmed but a good shim is definitely needed in this design. All of this is basically around $100ish together. I would also really suggest that you get the guitar set up by someone who specializes in Offsets to get the most out of the guitar. This is going to cost you more but you will have a better playing experience overall. This will cost a bit more.

    Another interesting factor, is that Line 6 has issued a cosmetic upgrade to celebrate Catalyst 2.0. I don't know if that's a factor, but depreciation is high on the 1st-gen models, making them a steal used. I just bought a used 60 for $170 USD online, and I've heard of others picking them up for less. I'm looking forward to applying the firmware update when it arrives. At minimum it should be a lot of fun, for less than the price of a new pedal.

    Just a reminder, it's important to be careful about running non guitar instruments through guitar amps, mainly because guitar speakers are not robust enough to handle extended frequencies (for example it's much better to run a guitar through a bass amp (Fender Bassman was designed for a bass first and foremost) than a bass through a guitar amp. Bass and keyboards can possibly kill a guitar speaker in a guitar amp because the cone of the speaker isn't designed for those instruments.

    If you want to replace those pots to a better quality I would suggest Bournes mini pots. They have the same "throw* as a CTS (full size Bournes pots turn super fast, so great on Teles with reversed plates if you want to go nuts with volume swells and tone swells with your right pinky) and you will get more of a Fender/Gibson feel on the knobs.

  • @gringogreen4719
    @gringogreen4719 4 місяці тому

    Guitar looks good and sounds pretty decent. What I have been doing on my guitar projects is to upgrade the electrics (CTS pots or Bournes pots, Orange Drop capacitors, Switchcraft jack, and a good switch (Grigsby doesn't usually fit in an Import control cavity so Kaish and JD Moon for me)) which gives the pickups and feel close to what you get with a Fender or Gibson. For Wide Swing Tremolos the best overall buy are the Fender units. The cheap WST tend to be wonky. It's also really easy to end up getting a Trem and bridge that will cost AS MUCH as your kit, if not more (Haylon, Mastery, etc...). Try buying a used Fender AVRI Trem for your guitar. You might also need a shim for your offset neck.

    • @MrRafaztar
      @MrRafaztar 4 місяці тому

      Great advice! I did buy an avri but it didn’t fit the cavity so might put the Squier classic vibe I ended up urging the avri in. I’ll try the electronics as I am refinishing this in black

Another thing that is made is a plate for mounting a Bigsby directly on a Wide Swing Tremolo plate where all the screws go into that plate, that can be an option too. Bigsbys work pretty similar to WST and if you replace the spring with a Reverend Guitars "Soft Spring, it gets nice and buttery.

    i would argue that they are more wanting to compete with LTD and Ibanez, as they have been dominating the high end Import line for quite a while. i like Eastman, but i really dont think they are who they are trying to compete with. as i really dont think eastman sales are anyway near LTD/Ibanez in the high end import market. i also think these High end Epiphone's are going to sell pretty well, simply because both the greeny (which was terrible vallue in my opinion) and the adam jones both sold out really quick at many retailers. these new ones are honestly better vallue than both those signatures especially better vallue than the greeny.

    Unfortunately Epiphone have built the reputation of the licensed Gibson imitation guitar at very affordable prices . To me is very dificult to accept that a simple Gibson Tribute or Melody maker cost more than a Epiphone custom shop . This despair in prices compared to materials used and quality building on both brands it shows how the guitar market is submerged in the lobby of the big brands . This new strategy from Epiphone is nothing more than a cover up to push Gibson prices up . When looking into the used guitar market is crazy how Gibson guitar gone up in price . My opinion is that Epiphone have made a big mistake in the past when they started building their guitar with not open book headstock, this have created for Epiphone itself the reputation of cheap and imitation of Gibson . In othet hand Eastman have the reputation of building high quality guitars to an affordable price compared to the big brands or original brands . In my experience the Eastmans that I own are already close to Gibson Custom-Shop level for a fraction of the price, so the main target of Epiphone at the moment appears to be the core USA Gibson line. Not sure how that works for Gibson.

    The new Epiphone SJ-200 is an unmatched value. No other brand makes THAT GOOD of a J-200 copy. Sigma been making the best copy, until now.

    That's a question I'm running into with repairing cheap guitars to a nice playing condition: Continue refining them, or sell it at a loss and move on to another? 🤔

      That’s the question that has been haunting my mind. Do I sink money into these guitars to see their potentiometers knowing that it’s a resale loss and it will be quite hard to make them exactly my forever guitars. Or save that money into getting something with a well known brand
